Pearl Fever Tea House in Surrey, BC is a tiny bubble tea place in the Guildford area. The first location was in Coquitlam and since then it has opened this location in Surrey and one at the University of BC as well. I actually really like the bubble tea here because it’s one of the few places that actually uses milk in their drink rather than powdered Carnation crap and water. You can even select skim milk and they tell you which drinks are made from 100% fresh fruit. They’re really good at customizing drinks here and it’s one of the few decent bubble tea houses in Surrey. Overall my favourite bubble tea place is still Dragon Ball Tea House in Vancouver though.

I do like this place and I’m going to blame this experience on the poor choice of drinks we ordered and the fact that we came just before closing time and they ran out of pearls. I admit, it’s been a couple years since I’ve been back to Pearl Fever Tea House, and unfortunately this time was not great. I usually order one of their smoothies or shushes (actually I always order slush for bubble tea) however this time I switched things up and ordered a Green Apple Smoothie and was really disappointed. The other drinks we had were okay, but not as good as I remembered them being. I do really like the pearls here though. They’re nice and chewy and sweetened perfectly.

On the table:

Honey Green Milk Tea (left) 3.5/6

  • $3.45 +$.50 for coconut jelly (We can just before closing and they ran out of pearls)
  • This was my favourite of the 3 drinks we ordered.
  • It was light and not too sweet or creamy and I could taste the green tea which wasn’t too strong.
  • I haven’t tried this flavour anywhere else so I can’t compare it to anything else.

Coconut Milk – 2.5/6

  • $3.45 +$.50 for coconut jelly (We can just before closing and they ran out of pearls)
  • I didn’t really like this and I love coconut. The coconut milk was from the can and the flavour was very watered down.
  • If you like coconut, Pearl Castle makes an excellent pineapple and coconut drink found in their “special drinks” section.

Green Apple Smoothie – 1/6

  • $3.75
  • Yikes! The colour of it hurts my eyes! I was so disappointed in this drink and the colour freaked us out. It looked like fluorescent neon slime and it was almost like a slurpee. I don’t even want to know what was in it.
  • The syrup came in this neon green plastic jug and when I saw them pouring it into the blender I knew I made a mistake with my order. I knew it wasn’t fresh fruit because it didn’t have the fresh fruit symbol, but I wasn’t expecting this 100% neon fake stuff either. It was extremely tart and sweet and I had 2 sips and threw it out.
