Post image for Brighter days in Vancouver. Today is a new flavour. This is My Vancouver.

Due to unfortunate events after the hockey game I am dedicating a post to support the Vancouver PD.
Yesterday was not the Vancouver I know and nothing has ever tasted that bad.
Today is a new flavour as the city comes together to clean it up.
Hoping everyone is safe and well.
Great people. Great food. Great place.

This is my Vancouver.

@Hector : – ughhh.. I know… thanks Hector! At least we have something to be proud about today… more positive ppl than negative in this city.

@Kristi with Twin Cities Restaurant Blog – I know… it’s awful, but thank god it’s over and people are coming together in a positive manner :)

I honestly thought things would be OK last night but I guess some people with an agenda+alcohol induced stupidity can be a powerful thing. I like your post and hopefully the city can heal and figure out how to handle large events without being taken over by people with no respect for anything.

Nice post, Mijune.Am sad about last night, it overshadowed the game and the fact that the Canucks struggled for 16 games in 2 months…winning 15 but losin’ the big one. What is with this sense of entitlement that people would steal just because the windows are broken ? What’s with burning and overturning cars ? No respect, no ethics, no sense of morality…however thanks to social media, some of these pinheads posted all their sins and pics were taken. Prosecute them and get a civil judgement that will hang over their heads and it will force them to repay for their transgressions.

It just amazes me that Vancouver let this happen. Vancouver proved it cannot conduct itself maturely back in 1994. They never should have encouraged all of those people to pack into the downtown core. From a sociological standpoint, large crowds in small spaces are ALWAYS dangerous. Downtown should have been closed, period. I am not surprised at this at all. That being said, it’s still sad and this is a lovely post. Hopefully Vancouver will learn from this but realistically it won’t. Years from now, this will happen again.

@John – thanks John! I’m with you. I don’t know how many times I said “I guarantee there will be no riots, we’re too embarrassed from ’94 still”… I guess I was wrong. Unfortunate that the rioters had to ruin it for everyone.

@Bow – Thanks Bow! The world is full of good and bad people and I hope to see positive change in the bad. Those videos make me want to cry. It’s devastating. Happy to see Vancity come together today to restore what some have destroyed.

@Trisha – Thanks Trisha! I think they thought we could play nice after the Olympics, but I guess that was because we were winning… the behaviour we saw yesterday was a disgrace. It was nice to see the community together for the last couple months, but after yesterday’s event… it just overshadowed all the positivity. I really wish the international media was showing and reporting on the clean up and not just the riots too.

Thank you for this post Mijune. It truly was a disgusting thing to witness and I am so angry that these people would trash such a beautiful city. We are so lucky to be living in one of the best cities in the world. I am saddened that the riots overshadowed the great season the Canucks had.

The true fans were the ones who stayed behind and watched as the Bruins hoisted the Stanley Cup. They congratulated the 2011 champions. They commended the Canucks for one of the best seasons of hockey in franchise history. And most importantly, they rallied together to clean up the mess left behind by the rioters.

@Dilara – I agree! The team that played better one so all is fair and life moves on as we look forward to next year. You couldn’t have said it any better Dilara! Thank YOU for adding your comment! I really appreciate it!
