Recommendations: Whatever floats your boat! Also a Follow Me Foodie Tasty Twist is to buy a bowl of shaved ice milk from Frappe Bliss (in the same Aberdeen Mall food court) and bring it over to Qoola and top it with froyo and the toppings here!

‘Tis the season to have froyo fa la la la la, la la la la! Seriously, I think I’m on about 3 minimum froyos a week. It’s no secret that I have a sweet tooth, but I still have to balance out my dessert diet right? I can’t be indulging on ice cream, pie and pastries after every single meal… even though I kind of do. Therefore to keep a good balance, I have to opt for something a bit healthier, because in my life a meal without dessert… is unfinished.

So if I’m craving ice cream, which I almost always do every second of the day, then I try to sometimes balance that with the healthier gelato, which I love even more! But if I want something healthier than gelato, then froyo it is! Sure, fresh fruit is the healthiest I could go if I want to satisfy a sweet craving, but fresh fruit as dessert is like having crispy turkey bacon instead of crispy pork bacon. It just doesn’t do it.

The Aberdeen food court is a dangerous place for me. With infinite savoury and sweet food options, it’s probably my favourite food court in Richmond. I could spend a day eating there, and I probably have. And when it comes to dessert, it doesn’t fall short.
Bubble tea, Frappe Bliss, soft serve ice cream, Frappe Bliss, Beard Papa’s Cream Puffs, dessert crepes, Frappe Bliss, 8 Juice, Chicken Wings and now the recently added Qoola! Wait! How does “Chicken Wings” fit? Well, they don’t, but the ones I’m referring to at this food court are from a place called Wo Fung Dessert (see here), so I think having “dessert” in the name somewhat counts. Besides, they’re not to be missed when entering this food court.

And how bout Frappe Bliss? Why is that listed more than the others? Well that’s because Frappe Bliss is my staple dessert stop in the Aberdeen food court. But now that Qoola has moved upstairs, from its previous location downstairs, I have important decisions to make!

Not only has Qoola moved into a smaller space, but it’s changed format and it’s even better. It features self serve froyo machines and a self serve toppings bar! It’s just like their location at Metrotown now. The concept is all over the States, but Qoola is the only place offering it in Vancouver thus far. The 4 flavours change occasionally and some of the toppings are upon request since the counter is too small to feature everything, so just ask for stuff you don’t see.

They charge by weight, and the cups are one size only, which is “family size”, so it’s easy to go overboard. With self serve everything, I guess I can forget about portion control and balancing my “dessert diet” huh? I need to learn self-control… but who cares when froyo is “healthy” ;).

So Frappe Bliss or Qoola? Frappe Bliss is one of my favourite dessert places actually. It’s shaved ice milk topped with a scoop of ice cream and other toppings. Simple and delicious! It doesn’t get much better… except if I could top it with some FroYo! Omg that’s brilliant and I just came up with that now! Buy a bowl of shaved ice milk from Frappe Bliss and bring it over to Qoola and top it with froyo and the toppings here! I don’t know how it’ll work, but I think it can! **Update!!! On August 5 I did this and it worked! See my last photo below!

On the table:

Original (Tart)4/6

  • The tart flavour is really tart at Qoola, so it depends if you like that.
  • It’s one of the most tart out of all the froyo places.
  • It’s creamy and a bit less dense than all the other flavours and it melts the fastest too.
  • It’s the least sweet except for when they occasionally offer the “no sugar added” flavours.
  • I topped it with granola and graham cracker crumbs. Usually I’d add nuts, but they had them behind the counter and I forgot to ask for them.

Green Tea3.5/6

  • I love green tea froyo, but I wish it was stronger with matcha flavour here. It’s quite creamy, mild and light, although their frozen yogurt alone is solid.
  • I topped it with coconut and fresh mango. I love how they offer fresh fruit here and not that syrupy canned stuff other places may offer.
  • The coconut is behind the counter, so just ask for it.

Cookies ‘n Cream4.5/6

  • This one tastes like soft serve ice cream and it’s sweeter, creamier and not tart at all. I love it.
  • It’s closer to the frozen yogurt flavour and texture at TCBY, but not as sweet as theirs.
  • The flavour was more like chocolate than Cookies ‘n Cream though, and I’ve had it in the States when it actually tastes like an Oreo flavoured froyo.
  • That’s why I topped it with the classic Oreo cookie crumbs.

**Follow Me Foodie Tasty Twist: Buy a bowl of shaved ice milk from Frappe Bliss (in the same Aberdeen Mall food court) and bring it over to Qoola and top it with froyo and the toppings here! I got the matcha shaved ice milk at Frappe Bliss and matcha froyo at Qoola, it got a bit too bitter, but they point is – it’s a good idea, but jut play around with flavour combinations.
