It had “perfect on a hot summer’s day” written all over it. The drink is called “Italian Lemonade” or “Italian Ice” and it’s a frozen dessert or drink made with fresh or artificial fruit juices and concentrates. Mario’s Italian Lemonade apparently sets a benchmark for fantastic Italian Ices.

A short break from Follow Me Foodie to Chicago because Canada Day is this Sunday July 1! Don’t have plans yet? Not to worry, I’m watching over your appetite and I have your cravings covered. It’s the 67th Annual Steveston Salmon Festival & the new Canada Day Block Party!
Birria is a spicy Mexican meat stew traditionally made from goat and Zaragoza is the last name of the family that brought the recipe to Chicago from Mexico. I was told Birrieria Zaragoza was a hole in the wall serving the most authentic and best goat tacos in the city. This is truly a FMF Must Try!
It’s a 1 Michelin Star restaurant and Chef Zimmerman is a 2012 James Beard Award Foundation finalist for Best Chef (Great Lakes). Michelle Obama once called it her favourite dining destination, so if it’s good enough for The First Lady then I wanted to try it for myself.
It’s opened by rock star chefs and I want to recommend everything! Chicago was off to a fantastic start and The Purple Pig hit a home run! The food was solid, the portions were more than fair and the prices were very reasonably for the ambiance, location and overall quality of food.
I was incredibly impressed by their impeccable food scene. No wonder Oprah chose it as her home! If you’re going to Chicago pack your appetite and your hairspray because the Windy City will literally blow your hair as much as your culinary mind. Welcome to Follow Me Foodie to Chicago!

Here is a highlight of Chef Ricardo’s specialities and a recipe for his mother’s amaretti cookies!
