Follow Me Foodie to Canada Day Food Events!
A short break from Follow Me Foodie to Chicago because Canada Day is this Sunday July 1! Don’t have plans yet? Not to worry, I’m watching over your appetite and I have your cravings covered. And if I don’t, then browse through my other blog posts and hopefully I’ve written about something else that gets you salivating.
67th Annual Steveston Salmon Festival
If you like this >(O.O)< then you better check out this! It’s the 67th Annual Steveston Salmon Festival in Steveston Village in Richmond, BC and the day kicks off with a 6:30am pancake breakfast. Yes, that is a 6 and not a 9. I love pancakes, but I certainly will not have the energy to be there for that, but kudos to you for making the effort if you plan to go. The parade will start at 10am and there will be lots of activities for families and people of all ages to entertain themselves with.
One activity that will certainly entertain me is the famous salmon barbecue. Over 1200 pounds of fresh wild BC sockeye salmon will be barbequed over an alder wood fire. At $15 per plate served with salad and a bun (cash only), it’s a guarantee sell out every year. For dessert I might suggest checking out Timothy’s Frozen Yogurt or grabbing a Screamer (slurpee with soft serve ice cream on top) from Screamers Soft Serve and Treats all in Steveston Village. Hey you started off with a healthy lunch, and Canada would want you to be happy, so go spoil yourself with both!
Canada Day Block Party
Now for those who are looking for something new, then I introduce to you the Canada Day Block Party! The Waldorf, Yelp and the Street Food Vancouver Society are hosting a free family friendly event with live music and food from some of Vancouver’s favourite street food vendors. The event will take place outdoors in the Waldorf’s parking lot and participating food carts include La Brasserie, Soho Road, Tacofino, Off the Wagon, Re-Up BBQ, Juice Truck, Mom’s Grilled Cheese, Didi’s Greek, Street Meet and more. I haven’t tried all those food carts yet, but I would gather a team of people and hit up each one. The event starts at 12pm and ends at 7pm, just in time for your Canada Day dinner!
Here are a few things you will find at the Canada Day Block Party:
Brass Chicken Sandwich with beer brined rotisserie chicken in gravy, on a buttermilk bun, topped with crispy onions from La Brasserie
Pulled Pork Sandwich from Re-Up BBQ
TacoFino Cantina’s Chocolate Diablo Cookie – A fudgy chocolate cookie with fresh ginger and chili, milk chocolate chunks and salty sprinkles.
+ lots more!
Happy Canada Day! Hope you have a delicious weekend that’s full of more than just poutine… although that’s always good too.
That cookie looks delicious!! xD
