Dear Mijune,

Discovered your blog the other day while surfing the net. I am impressed by the quality of your blog and the beautiful pictures. Very impressive. I feel that blog has merit because you have a palate; not because you’ve eaten out a lot and are adventurous but because of your upbringing. Obviously you learned about food because your family loved food. I’ve been in the food business for 30+ years and found that people that generally love food ate well at home, those that don’t, ate bland, processed crap.
I left you a previous comment but that may not have gotten thru, ‘cos it was your old site.
I recommend most highly the Shanghai Cuisine restaurant , inside the Continental Plaza( TD bank is on the east corner), on Cambie and Sexsmith(about 4 blocks east of No.3). I don’t know if you’ve reviewed this place yet …the food is fantastic, the best Shanghai restaurant in Richmond, the menu is extensive but not expensive. There are some items I’ve never seen before and desperately want to try. The ambiance and decor is very good. We had a noodle soup(fresh handmade noodles) with yellow chives and sliced eel, pork belly with soy, chinese cabbage and cooked tofu(minced into a spread like a coarse humus), xiao lon bao(unbelieveablely good), hot soy milk with Chinese donut. This place is better than the Shanghai River, the No.1 Shanghai, the Wonderful Shanghai and the Suhang(restaurants I consider the best of Shanghainese cuisine. Some places match the food but can’t match the menu. Enjoy your culinary adventures. Thanks for your blog.

Sincerely yours’
Bow W. Liu

Hi Bow!

I love reading your comments and thank you for taking the time to write to me. I really appreciate it. I’m so pleased that you like my blog and I am flattered by the compliments and insight. I really am a girl that just loves to eat and share my experiences with people like yourself :)

Is the Shanghai place you’re talking about the old “Chopsticks” restaurant beside Pearl Castle? If so, I have tried it when it was called Chopsticks, but not since it switched over. I actualyl really enjoy Chen’s Shanghai, but not I must try this one! I dine in Richmond a lot so I will put this on the map FOR SURE! Thanks for the recommendation – this is really wonderful.

Happy eating!

Hi Mijune
I came across your “The Best Poutine on Davie Street” video blog while reading Inside Vancouver Blog. I have been looking for places to go for poutine for a while and wanted to thank you for spotting them. Your blogs/reviews are very detailed and the pictures are great! It seems you put a lot of time and work to make this site and I’m glad I found it. Just one question though, how are you able to finish all that food?! If you’re ever looking for help to eat I am your bottomless pit haha. This site has made me hungry now so I shall go eat.

Hi again Mijune,

While I follow mostly the local blogs, checking in once a while to your blog is special especially when you write about your travels and culinary discoveries overseas. Makes me feel like I’m along on the trips (and wish I were !). Love the great pics as usual.

Bon appetit,
LotusRapper

Hey
this is Tyler and I love traveling around and finding new good restaurants.
I tried some restaurants from your blog.
And, I just want to suggest you a new sushi restaurant I found.
Just go and try.
It’s called Okonomi Sushi Restaurant and located in New Westminster, right beside Columbia Skytrain Station.
I found this place through urban spoon website.
And, it is absolutely amazing.
JUst a suggestion :)

8 Mijune September 19, 2010 at 4:03 am

Hi Tyler! I’m rarely in New West, but I do love The Hide Out Cafe. Okonomi Sushi is now on my radar! I love reader suggestions. Thanks so much for reading too!

11 Inspector Stanley October 12, 2010 at 4:24 pm

MJ – Keep this up. I will encourage others to come to this site and I will regularly read and add comments. I like your style – as you tell it the way it is. Crisp and fresh!! I bet you must be a blast to eat with….. Continue your wittiness. check out an easy eat on Robson Street called “Next Noodle House”… even though the name has Noodle House in it… there are hardly any noodles on the menu. THis is a more westernize chinesse restaurant but it darn good and clean. Try their “chicken lollipops” and “honey beef” – have it with some garlic thai sum and pineapple seafood fried rice. I can’t wait to hear your comments…. Enjoy!!!

12 Mijune October 12, 2010 at 6:07 pm

Inspector Stanley – wow thanks Stanley!! I’m so pleased that you enjoy Follow Me Foodie and I really appreciate the support. I really appreciate the feedback. It keeps me going! :)

I’ve actually heard of Next Noodle house before and I heard good things too. Thanks for the recommendation and I can’t wait to try those chicken lollipops!

13 Luc Van Phung October 18, 2010 at 10:27 pm

Hi Mijune

I was checking out all the video about poutine… was just woundering where are thoses restaurant ??? If you ever drop by in Montreal you should try out La Banquise is one of the best poutine in montreal !!!!

14 Mijune October 19, 2010 at 8:01 pm

Welcome Luc! Thanks for your message! All the restaurants to where I ate all those poutines are located on the link I have on each video. You can also click here for a short summary: http://www.followmefoodie.com/2010/07/happy-canada-day-vancouvers-best-poutine-on-davie-street/

I haven’t been to Montreal yet but I can’t wait until the day I do! La Belle Patate is the closest thing we have to authentic poutine in Vancouver thus far I think.

15 Inspector Stanley October 22, 2010 at 1:40 pm

I am using your website to vent and inform your readers to boycott “East Fusion” in Tinsletown. I just ate lunch there and literally saw several infractions that warrent me to shut them down. Since I was there on unofficial business and being a Friday afternoon – i did not want to create any drama. I would suggest to your readers that they not get fooled by the cheap lunch specials. The staff have no food handling skills and nor do they care. I saw the waitress literally sneeze on a plate of shrimp wontons and then proceeded to give to the table beside me. Seriously, no guilt or second thinking on her part!

Here we go….

Improper Construction/Maintenance/Sanitation of Establishment
General sanitation in the establishment continues to be very poor. Thorough cleaning is required in hard-to-reach places such as under, beside and behind all equipment. All kitchen walls require thorough cleaning, Mildew and dust on the walk-in cooler compressor must be removed. The walk-in cooler floor must be thoroughly cleaned. Missing kitchen ceiling tiles must be replaced. All storage areas require cleaning and organization so that they are clean and tidy. The mixer must be thoroughly cleaned. The floor in the dry storage container must be thoroughly cleaned. The fan in the dry storage room must be thoroughly cleaned and provided with a new cover. The drapes at the entrance to the back kitchen area are filthy and must be laundered. The fumehood canopy in the back must be professionally cleaned to remove all grease accumulations.

Food Handler Training
Although the owner has completed Foodsafe, no other food handlers have completed Foodsafe. It is the responsibility of management to pass on good food handling practices to their staff and to ensue that safe food handling practices are being observed. It is evident at East Fusion Food that this is not taking place. A violation ticket has been issued for non-compliance with Section 10 (2) of the BC Food Premises Regulation. At least one person per shift, including the manager, must have completed Food safe or an equivalent food handler training program. Given the poor food handling practices noted during inspections of this facility, it is strongly recommended that as many staff as possible complete food handler training.

16 Mijune October 22, 2010 at 3:28 pm

Inspector Stanley – eeeewwwwwwwwwww!!!!! She really sneezed on them? Wow you’re really on top of things when it comes to clean restaurants! Have you ever reported restaurants? thanks for letting my readers know and I’m sure they will appreciate it.

17 Nathan Chan November 4, 2010 at 12:14 am

Ick. I saw one of the kitchen staff at Tsim Chai use the public washroom without washing his hands once. I’m really hoping he washed them back in the kitchen. I know some people really like Dai Pai Dong, but that’s a bit too authentic for me.

@Mijune
I found your blog through circuitous link clicking, starting with Googling for liquer truffles, which led me to No Recipes where one entry linked to Eating Club Vancouver to Sherman which linked here.

Also, you look kinda familiar. You didn’t happen to go to a couple different Saturday morning Chinese schools in Surrey in elementary school and go to Seaquam at some point, did you?

18 Joolscyprien November 4, 2010 at 2:53 pm

Hi Mijune

I came across your blog from twitter. I’m loving it, Living in the uk we are not spoiled by a massive choice like you have in Vancouver. Don’t get me wrong we have some good places but choice isnt as varied as Vancouver and the lower mainland. reading your blog makes me miss BC even more and cant wait to get back next year and try all these places. Best build up my apatite

19 Inspector Stanley November 5, 2010 at 2:53 pm

MJ – in the event you want a break from eating out, have a Costco bbq chicken… Have you tried or had? Trust me….. you’ll go back wanting more. For a delicious $6.99 the meat falls off the bone. The best value money can buy! It taste great with potato salad or better yet a bowl of rice! Simply a must try and must eat…. You can even use the meat, the bones and the carcus to make your own congee…… mmmmm

20 Mijune November 5, 2010 at 4:17 pm

@Joolscyprien – wow! Thank you so much for the wonderful comment. That means a lot and I’m so glad I’m making you miss Vancouver!! We really are so lucky here to have so much diversity and great foo! I did like the Indian food in London though! thank you for your comment!!

@InspectorStanley – lol really? Falling off the bone meat sounds great to me! I love the Costco potato salad too! I like Nando’s BBQ chicken and someone suggested me to try the Uncle Willy’s BBQ chicken lol… I’m not sure how clean it is though ;) ….. Thank you for the great recommendation and I hope to try it soon Mr. Stanley!

21 Mijune November 11, 2010 at 1:38 am

@Nathan Chan – I remember you! You graduated with my cousin! Funny how you found my blog! Yes it is me! lol! Thanks for introducing yourself and putting all the connections together! Cool!!

22 Nathan Chan November 11, 2010 at 7:18 pm
23 Inspector Stanley November 15, 2010 at 3:50 pm

We need you back locally… we miss you! Vancouver is a better place to dine when you are here…I feel safer knowing that you are here…

Since, currently, I have nothing to report or comment on other than the fact that you should avoid eating Duck and Pork at the Congee Noodle House (located on Broadway and Main)…..

Reason WHY? Let me tell you……

Inadequate Cooling and/or Refrigerated Storage of Potentially Hazardous Food(s)
Owner was asked to place all raw duck and pork into cooler. Discussed with owner that storing potentially hazaroudous foods at room temperature is unacceptable as harmful bacteria can grow to amounts (or release dangerous toxins) that heat can not destroy. PLEASE DRY DUCK AND PORK IN THE COOLER AND NOT AT ROOM TEMPERATURE.

Observed raw duck and pork being stored at room temperature. Owner advised that this was how they dried the duck and pork and that they would be placed in the cooler after a couple hours.

Food Not Protected – General
All foods stored in the walk-in cooler were covered – good.

Improper Construction/Maintenance/Sanitation of Establishment
All unfinished wood by the two-compartment sink has been removed – good.

Improper Construction/Maintenance/Sanitation of Establishment
The facility is relatively clean especially with the new flooring. However, the bbq area still has grease build up on the walls which needs to be cleaned. The operator advised that they clean the walls every 3 months.

Please have this area (and all other areas with grease/debris build-up) clean by next inspection.

Other – Misc
The hose attached to the faucet (without a backflow preventer) has been removed – good. Shrimp is no longer being defrosted in this sink.

24 Mijune November 15, 2010 at 10:19 pm

@Inspector Stanley – LOL! You give me too much credit! Thank you so much for the kind words though! I am back! However I will be having San Francisco posts in between some Vancouver food posts.

Thank you for the heads up about Congee Noodle House. I’m actually really sad because I do like that place. I m glad to hear of no rodent droppings or pests though… that creeps me out the most out of all the stuff you report. *shiver*

Thanks again for commenting Inspector! :)

25 Joseph Wu November 30, 2010 at 10:18 pm

30 Nathan Chan January 21, 2011 at 12:06 am

Just a comment on the layout: You might want to put the search bar near the top, perhaps next to “Features” It can be a bit tricky to find sometimes.

31 Mijune January 21, 2011 at 1:05 am

@nathan Chan – I appreciate the feedback! Thank you! I’ll make the change!

32 Michael Buffett January 22, 2011 at 10:39 am

Dear Mijune…

I discovered your blog today due to a #FF on Twitter. I am so glad I checked it out..in fact I have been checking it out all day! I am a food critic “by trade”, born from an intense love for food and all the wonderment surrounding it. Today, my successful Internet Magazine is my “labor of love turned business”! Take a peek! It is read all over the world! But enough about me…

You have captured something special within your blog…a natural kind of edible sunshine emanates from your pages, making readers want more and more. Nothing impresses me more than intelligent people who love what they are doing and it shows! When we believe in ourselves, others believe in us too!

I am considering your blog for our “soon to be coveted” Five Star Food Blog Award! Only 3 other “bloggers” have been awarded so far. The latest one is posted on my site under Food Blog Awards.

I hope to communicate with you further…

Respectfully,

Tom House

34 Mijune January 22, 2011 at 7:14 pm

Dear Tom,

Wow. Oh my gosh! So nice!!! I’m absolutely overwhelmed by the comment you left. Thank you so much, from the bottom of my heart. I am SO pleased that you are enjoying my “work” which is really my life… I’m almost left speechless by your comment… which is really uncommon for me… as my blog says it all.

I would be honoured to even be considered for the Five Star Food Blog Award. Oh no… look what you did… I’m getting all teary eyed :*)

Thank you again for the wonderful comment.

Hi Mijune,
Quite simply you are inspirational!
I’ve only just discovered your site and I intend on being a regular – I love it!

36 Inspector Stanley January 24, 2011 at 11:03 pm

MJ – I truly admire your dedication and hard work towards your writing. It was too ironic to run into you at the Phnom Penh working away. You are a star! Many patrons were looking at you and were fully intrigued by what you were doing. I wish you all the best and continue your great blogs. Thanks to you, I have tried many of the restaurants that you have written on. The Patisserie Lebeau – what a great find! Best waffles by far…… Good luck in Vegas. Gamble on the peanut butter chocolate cheesecake at the Cheesecake Factory in Caesars Palace. Not sure where you hide all the calories on your body.

37 Mijune January 25, 2011 at 12:25 am

@Mmmm For the Love of Food – awww you are sooooo sweet!!!! Truly giving me too much credit but I am inspired by all of you wonderful readers and commenters!! Thank YOU!

@Inspector Stanley – Wow!!! Thank you so much! lol… as flattered as I am by your “star” comment… I am barely. You readers are the true stars to this blog and inspire ME to keep writing. I truly appreciate your comments/feebback/support and I was more excited to meet YOU at Phnom Penh! That was one of MY highlights of the day! :)

40 Jean February 19, 2011 at 4:43 pm

Best of luck with your blog. I only occasionally write about food..the more atypical stuff and definitely I’m not dining at many different places. Cycling just gets me ..to food places. :)

41 Mijune February 20, 2011 at 3:33 am

@Jean – Welcome Jean! Thanks for visiting!! I hope I can encourage you to explore some more :)

42 Angel February 27, 2011 at 3:46 am

Hi! I started following FollowMeFoodie and I love all your insightful comments and reviews! I’m so excited to try them all out. You’re super pretty and I like the new food videos by the way (but I wish you’d wear less eye make-up. The raccoon look is slightly offputting if the videos are going to continue.)

-Faithful Foodie Follower :)

43 Mijune February 27, 2011 at 12:53 pm

@Angel – Hi Angel! Aw thanks for your comment, compliments and suggestions! It’s nice to get the feedback and I’ll sure keep them in mind! At times we have to go heavier on the make-up for it to show on camera and I’m not a professional make up artist so I’m still learning myself. Hopefully I nail the amount soon :) Thank you for following me on my culinary journey!

44 Josh March 12, 2011 at 7:18 pm

Hi Mijune,

Just came across your blog and I really found it interesting. I’m just wondering if you’re going to try Filipino cuisine anytime soon. And I’m not just saying that because I’m Filipino, lol. It’s quite an adventurous cuisine, I must say, and since I saw your videos of your weird food adventures in Asia, I thought you might wanna try it out. Keep up what you’re doing, cause it’s awesome! :)

45 Mijune March 13, 2011 at 12:54 am

@Josh – Welcome to my blog! I’ve actually been to the Philippines once and I did enjoy the food hear, but my knowledge on it is still quite limited. Little Ong Pin, Kumare, and PinPin has been on my list for ages but I haven’t made it there yet. Any recommendations? I know Crispy Lechon is a must try. Thank you for your support and comment!
