Food 2.5

It’s a one stop shop for frozen treats, but nothing is house made. The ice cream was from Dutchmen Dairy in the Okanagan and the gelato was from Gelateria Dolce Amore on Commercial Drive. It’s quite cheap though, but that’s it.

It was another Chinese banquet and this time it was at a restaurant I can’t say I’m too excited to go back to each time. So why do I go back to it? Well it’s mainly because of the dance floor. It offers live nightly entertainment… of BALLROOM dancing & singing, and due to family, I must go.

Being located inside the Vancouver Art Gallery, it’s somewhat natural to assume that the Gallery Café would be a bit more special, elegant, or creative. I’m just going to say it, but I really think the restaurant needs an update. Cooking is an art, and here it just felt like a dying one.

It seems to be a neighbourhood favourite, but I didn’t get it, unless it wins by default. It is Japanese owned and operated and it is somewhat authentic, but I didn’t find it that great. At least it was all very affordable so the damage wasn’t too bad.

Everybody knows Bread Garden, but who knows “BG Urban Cafe”? Bread Garden has gone through a complete makeover and it’s now called “BG Urban Cafe”. With a new menu and logo here are some old and new favourites!

I remember coming here back in University and I haven’t been back since then. I don’t really know how to say this, but Migz BBQ was more or less BBQ for college kids. It’s a pub, sports bar, and restaurant, but they specialize in barbeque.

This time I tried the regular menu at Wild Rice Modern Chinese. Of course I appreciate the philosophy of local and natural ingredients, but overall the flavour still has to come together to justify the cost, and it doesn’t always do that for me here.

It was one of those “just pick a place” times and desperate times called for a desperate shake of an iphone for a “nearby” restaurant. Zawa offers casual pub food with some Greek specialties and Italian pastas, but it’s quite mediocre.
