A 1 Michelin Star restaurant, named “Top 10 wonders of Taiwan” by Reader’s Digest, “One of the top 10 gourmet restaurants in the world” by The New York Times (1993), and ranked by New York Leisure Magazine as “the must-visited tourist destination”.
Shanghainese
I might as well stop beating around the bush and just say it. Expect great food at a great price, but with the standard service you would expect from a Chinese restaurant… which is notorious for not being good. Other than that, it’s a solid find!
I’ve only come to Suhang once for dim sum before – see here, so I was anticipating their dinner since it would offer an entirely different menu. Suhang is considered a hidden gem in Richmond and it’s one of the places locals go to for authentic Shanghainese food.
If you’re not familiar with Shanghainese food then Dinesty Chinese Restaurant is probably the perfect place to start. It’s an incredibly “user friendly” menu with a photo of every dish. It’s also very affordable for dim sum or dinner & it’s been voted “Best Shanghainese”.
Spicy Szechuan Seafood Restaurant is a discrete restaurant in Richmond. The name suggests it specializes in Szechuan cuisine, but the menu has a lot of Shanghainese and Cantonese options and what I tried seems like it caters to Cantonese tastes.
My 2nd post for Shanghai House Restaurant featuring their dim sum. It’s a solid choice offering fresh, authentic, made in house and upon order dim sum. It’s also at a reasonable price, and in a comfortable and relatively fancy atmosphere and I’m eager to try their dinner.
I am so lucky to have a nice group of multi-multicultural friends. On this occasion I had my Shanghainese friend take me to her favourite Shanghainese restaurant in Richmond. According to her, Shanghai House Restaurant is the most authentic Shanghainese food in Richmond.
