It is a tapas style restaurant with a focus on local, sustainable, farm to table, seafood and vegetables. I know that all sounds very cliché these days, but the approach felt natural. It didn’t pigeonhole itself as a vegetarian or trendy restaurant, but it was current. Things felt nostalgic and classic in style, but the philosophy and execution guiding it was progressive.

Gyo-O Japanese Restaurant (Ramen & Donburi) 魚王

Last time I came here I loved it, and perhaps it’s because I’ve experienced more now that it wasn’t as satisfying, but things were noticeably different. It was a bit of a hit and miss menu with strengths in the soups and noodles and they do have an impressive selection of donburi and noodles.

Harvest Community Foods – Local (BC) Specialty Store/Noodle Shop

It doubles as a small specialty foods store and a casual eatery. As a neighbourhood market they offer local and organic goods, produce and products. As a restaurant they offer individual portions of Asian inspired noodle bowls made with good quality BC products for a West Coast palate.

Koto Izakaya Sushi & Robata (Japanese) – Late Night Eats in Richmond

It’s definitely a popular local favourite in Richmond for late night eats and specials. It’s made upon order, cheap, no fuss, good variety and great value for what you get. It’s not the best, but it’s decent and does the job. I consider it a bang for your buck.

Nan Chuu Japanese Izakaya 南廚

The food isn’t fancy or creative, so it might not be as exciting or interesting, but it is simple and authentic. The menu makes it one of the more traditional izakayas I’ve been to so far with reasonable prices and portions. For izakaya in Richmond, it’s a great option!
