In a short few days they each created three dishes for the special 18 course dinner starting from scratch. Most, if not all, of these chefs can take months before they put a dish on their menu, so this was really a change of pace. I didn’t get to witness it all happen, but I got to taste the final product… served by the chefs themselves.

Chef and co-owner of The Willows Inn, Blaine, selected five widely-acclaimed chefs to collaborate in this once in a lifetime dinner. The chefs had little to no preparation since the ingredients had to be sourced from the island. They fished, foraged and explored all the island had to offer.

lksajdnf!! Omg. Did that photo really happen?! And did I really have a Lummi Island style pow-wow over a beach bonfire at midnight with Dominique Crenn and the chefs at Willows Inn?! Shut the front door. I could pretend this stuff happens to me all the time and act like I wasn’t star struck, but I totally was.

I could smell roasted pork and tangy vinegar as soon as I got near. Paseo is a long time favourite in Seattle known for “the best sandwich in America”, or even “the best sandwich in the world”, which bothers me because I’m not a fan of “best of” lists. Anyway, last time I was here I got really lost and ended up at Local 360. This time, I had to find it.

Tacos in The Mission: El Gallo Giro Taco Truck & La Taqueria – San Francisco, CA

First off, there is a lot more to Mexican food than tacos and burritos, but I had to narrow my focus. Not having a taco in The Mission would be like skipping a croissant in Paris, so I committed to tacos on this occasion. A taco sounds like a simple thing, equivalent to the American sandwich, but there are things to consider when “judging” them.

If you’re looking for authentic Mexican tacos with homestyle recipes then this is the spot. They were no-fuss tacos at extremely affordable prices and they make all the marinades in house. It could get better than this, but I was quite satisfied having this as my one experience for authentic Mexican tacos in the Mission. Mission completed… for now.

Authentic Tacos & Mexican Food in The Mission District – San Francisco, CA

Mexican and Central American immigrants settled here in the 1940-1960’s and they introduced the neighbourhood to authentic Mexican and Latin flavours. Nowadays the district has changed and The Mission has become one of the young, hot, hip, “hipster”, and happening food scenes in San Francisco.
