I’m a huge fan of exploring street food in every new place I visit. It tells me a lot about their food culture. To really get a taste of what a city has to offer, you have to go across the board and experience high and “low” end dining and everything in between. Follow Me Foodie to New York Street Food!
New York is full of award winning delis that claim to have the city’s “best pastrami sandwich”. I asked a handful of trusted New York foodies some of their favourites and Eisenberg was one that came up often along with 2nd Ave Deli. A celebrity favourite in Manhattan.

I really wished I did some previous research because I thought the thing to order was the famous Cuban sandwich. That was only half the equation though and it turns out I missed the “Best Corn on the Cob” in the city. @$#%. Seriously?!

There was quite a bit of hype when Pronto Caffe first opened last year and it was mostly due to Vancouver’s sandwich craze, specifically for the porchetta sandwich. As a neighbourhood restaurant it’s a good choice with it’s casual and cozy atmosphere and affordable prices.

It supports local suppliers and seasonal ingredients, and it’s a very West Coast version of Canadian cuisine. The food is fresh and good quality and it offers sophisticated versions of the basics that are still very approachable.

Fried chicken has been the craze for the last few years in New York and the one at Peels has made several “Top 10 Best Fried Chicken in New York” lists. The menu features gourmet comfort food and American regional classics and it was an eclectic approach to farm to table dining.

It offers breakfasts, salads, sandwiches, and healthy options made with fresh ingredients. It’s affordable, clean, comfortable, straight forward, casual and everything is made in house besides the bread. It’s a great every day kind of place for breakfast or lunch.

Although Bel Cafe offers gourmet soups, sandwiches and salads with West Coast flare, it is equally known for its freshly baked goods and of course macarons. Their Parisian Macarons are one of the most sought over in the city.
