A recap and the winners of the 3rd Annual Food Fight: The Battle for Brunch 2012, an annual fundraiser for Variety. I arrived late and I had to hustle through all the stations in about 20 minutes before they closed. 6 brunches in 20 minutes? It’s doable, but less talking more eating.

Grocery Showcase West features independent grocers trying to take their products to the next level. Here are some trends I spotted at the show. I don’t really like calling them “trends”, but they are more or less just popular items or new ideas and products in the food scene right now.

It supports local suppliers and seasonal ingredients, and it’s a very West Coast version of Canadian cuisine. The food is fresh and good quality and it offers sophisticated versions of the basics that are still very approachable.

Fried chicken has been the craze for the last few years in New York and the one at Peels has made several “Top 10 Best Fried Chicken in New York” lists. The menu features gourmet comfort food and American regional classics and it was an eclectic approach to farm to table dining.
