Grocery Showcase West features independent grocers trying to take their products to the next level. Here are some trends I spotted at the show. I don’t really like calling them “trends”, but they are more or less just popular items or new ideas and products in the food scene right now.

I am addicted to Polvoron Cookies. These cookies are not anything new, but perhaps a cookie that not everyone is familiar with. It’s a Filipino shortbread cookie and one of the best shortbread cookies I’ve had. They’re best & home made at Goldilocks Bakery.
Don’t let the photo fool you. It may look like a simple coffee cake, but it’s not. It’s delicious! It’s buttery, crumbly, incredibly moist, sweet, nutty, and rich in almond flavour. The vanilla scented pear filling made it like a fruit pie or fruit crumble inside a cake!

Chinese New Year is on February 3rd and I’m super excited for all the food… and festivities! Aberdeen Centre will be hosting a Chinese New Year fair Jan. 28- Feb. 3, and what warmer way to welcome the Chinese New Year then to start off with a cup of Chinese tea?
