Toronto, ON – Grand Electric (Tacos)

I knew it was named Top 10 Best New Restaurants in Canada by EnRoute Magazine, but I didn’t know how crazy locals went for it. After one bite of a taco I could understand why. I’ve had tacos like this before, but they never tasted as good as this. I could have kept ordering and I wanted to try their entire menu. I was addicted.

The Executive Chef is Damon Campbell who was one of the Team Coaches for Team Canada in 2008 for the IKA World Culinary Olympics. The menu reads and tastes Pacific Northwest, which is interesting being on the East Coast, but the tasting menu delivered, although he is capable of more.

Arepas are still quite unknown outside of Latin America, but they are a staple in Colombia and Venezuela. There are many varieties of them, but these ones are modern Venezuelan. Chef and owner Luis Cordoba brings a quality arepa to Toronto and it is the most popular place to have them.

They specialize in modern banh mi sandwiches, steamed baos, and Asian style tacos. They made the banh mi even more approachable by replacing the traditional Vietnamese cold cuts and pâtés with familiar American meats, creative Asian sauces and fillings.

It was named #1 Best New Restaurant in Canada by EnRoute Magazine. It is a farm to table Euro-Canadian bistro inspired by seasonal and mostly local ingredients. The concepts and techniques are European and the food is presented unpretentiously. A must try in Toronto.

Follow Me Foodie to Muskoka! (Buick Encore’s Culinary Adventure in Muskoka)

We took our Buick Encores for a short road trip up to Muskoka, Ontario’s luxurious cottage country 2 hours north of Toronto. After a little mountain ice climbing (yes, I did that!) I was starving. This is the Buick Encore Long Table Dinner with Muskoka Catering.

The Toronto Tasting menu offered 8 very different small plates and each plate represented a neighbourhood of Toronto. When it came time for desserts, I was presented an heirloom carrot cake, chocolate brownie with blood orange, maple pecan bar, and foie gras ice cream sandwich!
