Hmmm… so it was the restaurant choice for Wellspring heart participants. I definitely had mixed feelings about the discovery. Part of me thought I could be in for a nice surprise, and the other half of me thought “hospital food”. Hidden gem or just needs to be hidden?

Lucky Spoon Frozen Yogurt wasn’t on my planned foodie itinerary, but it just happened to be on the way back to the car. In fact, the car was parked right in front of it. So how could I resist? It was meant to be. Self-serve frozen yogurt here I come!

Ruby Jewel Scoops started as a food cart at the Farmers Market and it now has a store front thanks to its strong following of fans. It specializes in artisan ice creams and gourmet handmade ice cream sandwiches made with all natural ingredients.

The owners, chefs and cooks are all Cuban, or of Latin decent, and they claim the food is authentic, but I couldn’t help but to think it was catered to American tastes, although still very good. The ingredients used are all fresh, local and sustainable.

It’s a popular hot spot & local favourite in Portland, Oregon serving eclectic tapas inspired by local ingredients for breakfast, brunch, and dinner. It’s definitely a neighbourhood and local favourite and it’s one of the less obvious choices for tourists too.

I didn’t even take my intended whiff of the air before I was hit with the wonderful aromas of a rich and hearty breakfast, which was also once featured on Food Network’s Diners, Drive-Ins on Dives. This is a Portland tradition and must try!
