Although Bel Cafe offers gourmet soups, sandwiches and salads with West Coast flare, it is equally known for its freshly baked goods and of course macarons. Their Parisian Macarons are one of the most sought over in the city.

This year I was invited to be a guest judge and what an honour it was. What?! You want me to eat 10 mains and 10 desserts made by some of Vancouver’s finest chefs? It’s a tough job, but someone has to do it, so I guess I’ll sacrifice myself.

Pull at my heart strings. I’m almost embarrassed that it took me so long to discover this hidden gem. A fundraiser dinner with Bocuse D’or Canadian Chef Alex Chen at the new Cafe 374. A cafe worth supporting!

It’s critically acclaimed as one of the finest and best Indian restaurants in the world. I think it’s worth it if you include all the generous appetizers, great food, ambiance and service, but whether it’s worth the 2 hour wait is the real question.

I like Jazz Apples, Jazz music and heck even Jazz hands, but what about Asian Jazz? Hmmm, I don’t know how jazzed up I am about this one. Chinese food in Surrey? And it’s next to Source Adult. All signs were pointing to no, but I did it anyways.

It was named “Best New Restaurant”, “Best Small Plates”, and “Best New Design”, and it’s modern Chinese done right. It offers Chinese and Asian ingredients presented in small plates with European style, and Chinese and French execution and techniques.

Congratulations to all the chefs who competed in the live culinary competitions for the title of “BC Chinese Chef of the Year” and “Roasted Chef of the Year”. After 2 days of Iron Chef like cooking challenges the scores have been tallied and the results are in!
