$30-50

I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been asked “what’s your favourite restaurant?” and my answer is simple. I don’t have one. For me, when all is said and done it comes down to the food, so I follow the chef more so than the restaurant, and in this case I follow Chef Hamid Salimian.

Jiro Dreams of Sushi… and so does Mijune (which is me by the way – hi!). It’s apparently one of the places to go for sushi in West Vancouver, so I decided to give it a try. It serves traditional sushi and modern Japanese izakaya, but It didn’t deliver to expectations and I found it quite overpriced.

Holy crap! No, not the cereal, but just holy crap. I don’t know how many Mother’s Day restaurant promotions are happening around Vancouver, but my inbox is literally flooded with Mother’s Day menus. It’s the busiest day of the year for restaurants. Follow Me Foodie to Mother’s Day Brunches!

It’s an upscale restaurant serving Pacific Northwest and West Coast cuisine, but on occasion I felt a disconnect in the theme of the restaurant and the approach to the menu. I was on the Boneta board for the most part, but there were some hit and miss dishes.

It does have that “chain-like” atmosphere, but it was comfortable and no different than say your Moxie’s or Earls. The menu was more like The Keg and it’s casual dining and a modern take on a steakhouse.

For $30.95/person (includes a Mimosa) I found their Sunday Brunch quite reasonable for what was offered. I was pretty impressed with their selection which included the standard American breakfast items, international options and desserts.

The food was decent, although not my usual dim sum spot. The place is a local favourite and sister to Empire Chinese Restaurant. There was nothing to complain about and nothing really to rave about, although it’s better than average for sure.

Context, education, quality and the bartender can make a difference when it comes to appreciating new things, and I had all the elements to make the equation work. Here’s my Hawksworth Spirited Dinner featuring a southern menu paired with whiskey cocktails.
