Summer is finally here and so are the events. This is the third year for Throughbred’s: A Day at the Races, one of Vancouver’s “social elite” parties of the year. It’s a premium event inspired by the Kentucky Derby meets summer in the Hamptons, but all of this will take place in Vancouver, BC.
Cocktails & Canapés Caterings & Events is an environmentally sustainable catering company that will be providing the canapes made from locally sourced ingredients. The day will also feature gourmet popcorn, classic and craft cocktails, bubbles and premium brew, a Bourbon Bar, and an award-winning Milano Espresso Bar.
There will be live jazz music, jazzy house and jazz remixes and of course the races and much more entertainment; but after all of the above I’m just curious to see which girl can keep her hat on, and whose cuff links end up in whose purse…
From what I gather it seems like an event for the fictional characters of Gossip Girl, Paris Hilton, Ina Garten from Food Network’s Barefoot Contessa (if she was in her 30’s), and maybe Will & Kate… or more likely Harry & Chelsea… and Donald Trump. So from that I’m sure you can paint your own picture.
It’s a social gathering of food, fun and fashion, and cocktails, and it will either be an event to remember, or one you won’t be able to. It will be about what you’re wearing, or who you’re wearing, and about what you’re eating (or maybe what you’re not eating… or drinking). You can be sure I’ll be the one eating, and sipping here and there. I am a little concerned that I’ll be aerating the grass with my shoes though.
Of course after so many drinks, everyone is bound to look good… so make sure you bring a friend to keep you on track and preferably off the race track. And also betting is on the ponies and not on your friends.
See you at the races! I’ll be the one in the hat and the heels! 😉
There will be a Woodford Julep $100 Charity Cocktail, where mixologists will create unique twists to a traditional mint julep. There will only be 100 of these exclusive cocktails available and 100% of proceeds will benefit Face of Today, a charitable organization benefiting at risk youth via arts and community outreach programs.
Woodford Reserve Mint Julep Recipe
1 serving
1 level tsp powdered sugar
2 – 3 fresh mint leaves
Crushed ice
2 oz. Woodford Reserve, plus a bit more for muddling
Place powdered sugar in julep cup. Add fresh mint leaves. Wet with a splash of Woodford Reserve and muddle together using wooden muddler (a spoon works as well).
